How it works

  1. Paste or type your text.
  2. Counts update live as you type.

Supported formats & limitations

  • Input
Any plain text, pasted or typed.
  • Output
Word, character, sentence, and paragraph counts.
  • Sentence counting is based on punctuation (., !, ?) and may miscount unusual abbreviations or formatting.
  • Very long text (well over a million characters) may slow down your browser tab.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text sent anywhere?

No, counting happens entirely in your browser as you type — nothing is uploaded.

How is a "word" defined?

Any sequence of characters separated by whitespace counts as one word.

Does it count characters with or without spaces?

Both are shown separately, so you can use whichever your context (e.g. a character limit) requires.

Troubleshooting

Why does the sentence count look wrong?

Sentence counting looks for ., !, or ? followed by a space — abbreviations like "e.g." or decimal numbers can occasionally be miscounted as sentence breaks.

Why did the counts disappear?

The text box is empty — counts reappear as soon as you start typing or pasting again.
